It was George Santayana who wrote in The Life of Reason: “Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it.”
Well over a century later, I must write:
Those who don’t know their history, are codemn to repeat it, and those who know it and insist on changing it, they repeat it likewise.
It is the attitude, not the knowledge. Oblivion is not betrayal and memory is neither fidelity.
